The Precious One

"Who is this man who takes command in a
strange and distant land?
He wears his uniform with pride, his weapon
tightly at his side.

His eyes are stinging from the sand, he tries to
shield them with his hand.
He hasn't bathed and doesn't sleep, but his
convictions are very deep.

It's freedom that he's fighting for; the liberation of
oppressed and poor.
He's proud and honored to be part and knows
it's right deep in his heart.

Suddenly a shot rings out! There isn't even time
to shout.
His body falls upon the ground...he is unable to
make a sound.

His eyes gaze up into the sky, he blinks back
tears and wonders why?
He's so alone and filled with fear. A soldier tells
him help is near.

Another's arms now hold my son. He was my
precious only one.
Thank you soldier for being there, for your
courage and your care.

For he was just my little boy who filled me with
such wonderous joy!
Now he rests in Jesus' care. I only wish I'd
been there.
